Chartbusting 80s

I've been roped in to look after audio for the tv show Chartbusting 80s on Melbourne's Ch31
I went in for a look over the RMIT-located studio on Wednesday. Lots of old gear kicking around, and a basic but competent A&H mixer to look after audio. Very little audio outboard gear to speak of at present, but we'll see what we can find.
First show next Thursday evening at 9:30pm, I believe. Director Josh Egan's boundless enthusiasm will help drive things along and I'm quite looking forward to the whole thing.

This week's Sojomail newsletter is well worth a read, as always. I'm keen to get a copy of Jim Wallis' latest book.

tv stuff

This week it's all about getting into the groove of mixing audio for Ten News Melbourne. The Amek console takes some getting used to, but the overall feel is nice. I always feel satisfied when I've got a handle on the matrix routing (sorry - audio techspeak!).

This being Lent I'm being a bit spare with the blogging...

tsunami detail

The Royal Navy has released some computer images of the ocean floor deformation that caused the tsunami. Interesting stuff, but a little hard to interpret. Hydrographic technology is certainly providing us with some of the best pictures yet of the ocean floor, though.

Liquid conference

Just caught the tail end of the Liquid Conference, run by Darren Rowse and co. Thanks to all the organisers and workshop leaders.
It seems like people had had a good day. I came in late, just as people were sharing stories of their new church experiences.
I must say, there were some heartening stories there, but I would have liked to have seen some older people there (and I'm regretting not publicising the event more among some of the `older and wiser' folk down at Port). As a result I do struggle with the whole aspect of `cool' in the so-called emerging church. What of the people separate from the `emerging church' loop who are parts of church communities who really do things quite differently and have for some time? Perhaps to them all our enthusiastic ideas are old hat. Are we getting tied up with semantics in our descriptions and conversations about the new and creative church scene?
Hmm....
